If you want to change the world… love a woman

by Lisa Citore

This is what Lisa writes on her website about her poem:

“When a fairly spiritual male friend of mine who had finally found and was deepening into committed relationship with his soul mate confided in me he was thinking of being single again, and in the next breath expressed his latest idea for raising consciousness worldwide, I wrote this poem.”

If you want to change the world… love a woman-really love her.
Find the one who calls to your soul, who doesn’t make sense.
Throw away your check list and put your ear to her heart and listen.
Hear the names, the prayers, the songs of every living thing-
every winged one, every furry and scaled one,
every underground and underwater one, every green and flowering one,
every not yet born and dying one…
Hear their melancholy praises back to the One who gave them life.
If you haven’t heard your own name yet, you haven’t listened long enough.
If your eyes aren’t filled with tears, if you aren’t bowing at her feet,
you haven’t ever grieved having almost lost her.

If you want to change the world… love a woman-one woman
beyond yourself, beyond desire and reason,
beyond your male preferences for youth, beauty and variety
and all your superficial concepts of freedom.
We have given ourselves so many choices
we have forgotten that true liberation
comes from standing in the middle of the soul’s fire
and burning through our resistance to Love.
There is only one Goddess.
Look into Her eyes and see-really see
if she is the one to bring the axe to your head.
If not, walk away. Right now.
Don’t waste time “trying.”
Know that your decision has nothing to do with her
because ultimately it’s not with who,
but when we choose to surrender.

If you want to change the world… love a woman.
Love her for life-beyond your fear of death,
beyond your fear of being manipulated
by the Mother inside your head.
Don’t tell her you’re willing to die for her.
Say you’re willing to LIVE with her,
plant trees with her and watch them grow.
Be her hero by telling her how beautiful she is in her vulnerable majesty,
by helping her to remember every day that she IS Goddess
through your adoration and devotion.

If you want to change the world… love a woman
in all her faces, through all her seasons
and she will heal you of your schizophrenia-
your double-mindedness and half-heartedness
which keeps your Spirit and body separate-
which keeps you alone and always looking outside your Self
for something to make your life worth living.
There will always be another woman.
Soon the new shiny one will become the old dull one
and you’ll grow restless again, trading in women like cars,
trading in the Goddess for the latest object of your desire.
Man doesn’t need any more choices.
What man needs is Woman, the Way of the Feminine,
of Patience and Compassion, non-seeking, non-doing,
of breathing in one place and sinking deep intertwining roots
strong enough to hold the Earth together
while she shakes off the cement and steel from her skin.

If you want to change the world… love a woman, just one woman .
Love and protect her as if she is the last holy vessel.
Love her through her fear of abandonment
which she has been holding for all of humanity.
No, the wound is not hers to heal alone.
No, she is not weak in her codependence.

If you want to change the world… love a woman
all the way through
until she believes you,
until her instincts, her visions, her voice, her art, her passion,
her wildness have returned to her-
until she is a force of love more powerful
than all the political media demons who seek to devalue and destroy her.

If you want to change the world,
lay down your causes, your guns and protest signs.
Lay down your inner war, your righteous anger
and love a woman…
beyond all of your striving for greatness,
beyond your tenacious quest for enlightenment.
The holy grail stands before you
if you would only take her in your arms
and let go of searching for something beyond this intimacy.

What if peace is a dream which can only be re-membered
through the heart of Woman?
What if a man’s love for Woman, the Way of the Feminine
is the key to opening Her heart?

If you want to change the world…love a woman
to the depths of your shadow,
to the highest reaches of your Being,
back to the Garden where you first met her,
to the gateway of the rainbow realm
where you walk through together as Light as One,
to the point of no return,
to the ends and the beginning of a new Earth.

    Dear Lisa,
thank you! Thank you so very much!
Your poem has such a deep truth!
There is nothing to add… except how sad it makes me seeing men struggle so hard against this truth, believing that it would reduce them to surrender to women’s wisdom.
    Love,

Oh yes, this is it….to really deeply love woman

what a good life if man goes for that
    ….and woman surrenders to that……

what a good day …….when this happens. it is worth every second to wait for that, to long for that…….7 years ago before I met my partner I was longing for that. I renounced for 1 1/2 years to meet in an old way with men. I stood alone in the fire, I wanted the real thing…..and it came……very very cleary….. we don’t have to be afraid, that we don’t recognize it, when love through man really comes its way, we get it, it’s undeniable. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this poem, I have to read it again and again……

AND may every woman not settle for anything less… to know that man truly loves her down to her bones into the ocean of heart bliss that IS Her aroma of divine intoxication!

A moving invitation to authentic living, authentic partnership and the transformative powers of love. When we choose to love even with our fear, we move beyond the fear and reap the benefits that await all those willing to risk. Ah, to risk… what is there to be gained by not taking the risk? I believe this fabulous poem addresses this.
Blessings to Lisa and all the risk-takers out there who choose to make beauty in their lives!

    Thank you for these words.
    Thank you for reminding me…….
These words are indeed words of Truth and yet what you ask Woman is no small thing.
But you are right. For too long have I dipped my toe into the Ocean that is Woman and Love.
Terrified and humbled as I am I know the times draws near for the axe. I long for it and fear it but know it is inevitable.
Be patient with me Woman for I shall come. Miguel x

  • Fabian

A lovely little poem that undoubtely expresses the roiling ocean of sentimentality flowing in many women’s minds.

    There’s just one problem.

It’s your fault men don’t trust you. Lest anyone forget, most men were chugging along quite nicely for the past 2500 years of Western Civilization, content in the knowledge that male gifts to women, primarily strength, security, and order, would be reciprocated in kind by women’s pledges of fidelity, kindness, femininity, and most importantly, access to his children.

Then women changed. Women decided they wanted all that stability and security, AND freedom to do whatever they pleased outside the home. Well, there are no free lunches ladies. The freedom you sought and now take for granted came at the expense of all the wonderful things you seem to want so dearly as expressed in this poem. All those “repressive” rules of social and sexual decorum you so eagerly cast off actually existed for a reason; namely, to provide a safe secure space in which a man and a woman could express their true vulnerabilites to each other. Indeed the creation of the social structure necessary to maintain the monogamous nuclear family unit was perhaps one of the greatest achievements of Christian Civilization.

And now that it’s all falling apart from your demands, you’re pining for the old days. Well. As a man I can tell you I’d love nothing more than to find a woman and do all the things you mention in this poem. But there are no free lunches ladies. The cost of such an arrangement is some of your freedom. Are you prepared to give that up – permanently – to get your nirvana? Are you prepared to help us rein in the scads of libertine “ladies” running around today? Will you support men like us who want to get laws changed so men can trust you without worrying about getting raped in divorce court, or having their children taken away from them without their consent? I think not. I think most of you still think you can have it both ways. I think most of you still distrust men as a group completely. That’s why most of you will never get such bliss.

Welcome to the brave new world you created ladies. the Land of Loneliness.

  • awakeningwomen

or it could be, maybe, possibly, that the world is not that black and white…

I think you are right that there are lots of mistrust, effects also from the old paradigm. I am not sure that every one would agree that that the old way created this kind of transparent intimacy that this poem is envisioning.

Hopefully we are entering a new phase, with possibilities of true intimacy, respect and even worship among genders beyond we can imagine.

    Chameli

  • http://www.mindbodycoaching.com andrew

Great dialogue of possibility between Fabian and Chameli!

If the mirror reflects accurately our human and divine predicament, the same poem could be written for a man, for men in general, and hopefully it would launch as much admiration, courage and healing for us all.
If I honor the woman in my life as this poem suggests and invites, then I honor myself in like manner—I get exalted in like manner. I expect my mate to capitulate in like manner…
Does that inherenetly make me a divne fool, hopeless romantic, or slave to the feminine principles without getting my needs met? I hope not…

  • Carleton

I need this kind of pep-talk occasionally. Then I’m ready to get back in — and be amazed by this one that I love. Your poem is about HER!!! Will share a related quote from Joyce and Barry Vissell. “Your mind will naturally seek the easiest person to be with, one with whom there is no struggle, no rough edges to work out, one with whom it is easy and comfortable. But your heart, your true inner self, will seek the person who can best help you in your search for truth. The mind seek an easy relationship, the heart seek a spiritual partner!”

    Dear Chameli,
When I read this poem, I felt so inspired to paint what I was feeling and have dedicated this picture to both you and Lisa for encouraging me to read and experience what Lisa wrote. This piece of poetry reminds me of the love my husband and I still share though he is no longer with us, it inspires me to remember every time my Teacher reminds us to sanctify women everywhere because we have all come into this world through the womb of a woman.

Thank-you for all you do to uplift the feminine everywhere. While creating this art, I was thinking about how I still hold back so much of myself thinking it might just be too much. All the time my intentions were misunderstood or undermined and today I feel like it is all worth it to pour ourselves out. We honor love, we honor ourselves and the wonder of creation itself. We have not begun to tap into the “Phenomenal Feminine” yet. Kudos to women everywhere.

Wow, Yes!….and thank you for all the comments. Before I had read the poem I thought it was a message to all women to love a woman and I felt Yes we really need to support one each other deeply. Then I read the poem and was so touched that it was written to men. Then I was so happy for all the free comments and also from men. Thankyou for being here helping us all. Then I found the poem written to me to love me in this profound way. And now I choose to see this poem written to everybody. To men who dare to, to women who dare to love a woman so profoundly within her/himself or/and outside her/himself.

Good Luck! Let’s go for it!

  • John

    Beautiful poem.
Every woman is a Goddess. A Flawless Goddess.
Every man is a God. A Flawless God.
What is it that gets in the way of us seeing that?
    And demonstrating that?
Why don’t we treat each other with the awe, respect, honor, love, foregiveness, even worship that a Flawless God/Goddess deserves?
I bow at the feet of the Flawless Goddess.
Yet I feel, hear and see other than Goddess like thoughts, words and deeds.
And I, and other men, demonstrate less than Flawless God thoughts, words and deeds.
    Love is all there is.
What gets in the way of us sharing and demonstrating the Love we truly are?
I imagine we each have our own story.
Can we get beyond stories and excuses and get down to the play of squezing as much of the infinite love as possible through the finite forms we are playing in?
If you want to change the world demonstrate love.
In your thoughts, words and deeds.
And if you miss the mark, forgive yourself. Love would.
And rejoice that you have just been made conscious of a “less than love” thought, word or deed.
Now you can consciously change yourself.
    Which will change the world.
    LOVE!!!!!

Thank you, Lisa, for this amazing poem.
Thank you, Chameli, for introducing us to Lisa.
And thank you, Ganga, for sharing this: “it inspires me to remember every time my Teacher reminds us to sanctify women everywhere because we have all come into this world through the womb of a woman.”
As I sat with my mother, right after her death, I experienced a tremendous love for her, a love beyond humanness and frailty, a love I had never experienced while she was living. This love was for her as the way of life itself. A love so vast descended on us, pulling me to a place of great honor and respect her body as the vessel through which I came into life.
Maybe we can all, men and women, begin to remember the sacredness of each other, and of all of life. I’m not saying it will be easy, but whatever it takes, it will be well worth it.

  • Miriam Hamsa

    Fabian,
I agree with much of what you say. But we are not the women who sought that kind of world. I for one am aghast and saddened by the “libertine” ladies. I do think much of what was wrought by feminism has been destructive – though, “first there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is.” But much of what is blamed on feminism is also simply the result of our economy – and the material desires that have been encouraged.
That said, this poem, from where I stand on mother earth today, (and it would not have been true had i said this three years ago) is some of the deepest truth I have ever read. If you want to heal the planet, heal the war between men and women, this is the way. We also acknowledge the divine in man, and surrender to it in deepest love- but conscious surrender is a different choice than not having a choice.
    Blessings on us all.

Six and a half year ago I met my partner.
    I was so very broken.
    Pain In Out and Through.
    He saw through that anguish
    right to me.
He brought the love that I’ve never had the likes of.
It scared me. It comforted me. I loved back. I resisted.
    He never gave up.
And the seeds of his love sprang from their husks into vines that broke me
    wide open.
The pain became a thing covered in green.
    Growing, shifting, blossoming and decomposing.
Now there is this new life
and there is nothing but the ME
    he saw all along.
    And guess what!
    I’m changing the world.

As a spiritual man who truly loves women, and has been passionately in love with, and married to one for over 35 years, this poem is so profoundly incomplete and needy and one-sided, it has me contemplating the single life.

The gulf is so vast that even as you sing of it, you don’t hear it.

This is the first of at least eight chapters, but only the first is so truly not enough.

To change the world, love a woman.
To change the world, love a man.
To change the world, love your neighbor as yourself.
To change the world, love yourself.
To change the world, love God.
To change the world, allow a woman to love you.
To change the world, allow a man to love you.
To change the world, know that God loves you.

  • Robert

    Well said,

    and so.

It will not what you see here, but what you do not.

It will not be what you have heard, but what you listen for.

It will not be what you have tasted, but what you hungered for.

It will not be what you remember, but what you forget that you will recall.

    Thanks

  • http://kklostonpurpose.blogspot.com Kelly

This poem is beautiful and I will have to agree with some of the comments that it is for everyone.

To change the world, embrace the feminine, the masculine and learn to dance in balance between the two.

I feel that our past has brought us to the present, yet sometimes we must get lost in order to find out who we really are, what we really desire, what is real and what is illusion. And unlike some of the women of our world who ‘demand’ these great things, there are women of this world who already possess these things and understand that they have all their desires fulfilled whether or not they have that perfect mate to share it with. It’s a love of self that allows us to see that, allows us to see that beneath it all we are all connected and love each other.

I also believe that women who possess this find that partner because they have the patience to wait, the strength to endure and the willingness to learn with every moment that presents itself. I believe that partner has been doing the same thing on their journey to meet their woman.

When we all show up as who we are meant to be is when the world begins to change. No laws or bills will ever overpower that.

    Thank you for this poem!

    what a debate!!!
    Change the world !!!
    Why change the world…
Did not the great spirit make it beautiful???
perhaps we both male an female need to love an respect each other…and all liveing things great and small as a whole..
i seek not to gain or to change the world ..but to change within me….and to see beauty in all of this world..
The poem speaks to both male and female….
I for one love this beautiful world the great spirit has made..
Take a good look an see with open eyes..beyond your ego!!!
and own what is not the truth within…
May the great spirit bless you all and all liveing things
and lets start to love eah other and all liveing things beyond the universe to a space where we all go when we become whole..with the unseen one, with nature, animals, last but not least each other ..
though we have not met or maybe never in this live time of
    mine..
I just want to say i love you all..and this beautiful world of ours…which by the way is a gift too us all..as we are to each other..
take what we need and no more …love is the answer the answer is within…beauty is within..
    …………John

If a man wants to change the world…
he must love The Divine Feminine within himself…
    first.

If a man wants to change the world…
he must find The Sacred Masculine in his own heart…
    first.

If a man wants to find, have, be, give…love…
he must give it to himself…
    first!

Without this deepest of all journeys
there will be no real love,
    only continuing dependancy…
there will be no shift to the next level of consciousness,
only continued dominance of the mind…
there cannot be any real change
until a man can love himself completely and exactly as he is.

Is this journey any different to a woman wanting to change the world?

    This is my journey anyway…
    to be the change…
    instead of talking about it…
    like I am here :)

    Absolutely true and beautifully expressed.
How long? How many times. did I try to help him see this? Finally said, “I will love you always but will not be here, to be ignored, used and treated just as you treat the earth, waiting for those rare moments when you love what you have before you, only to  push me aside again for the allure of airbrushed porn, the bigger truck, the  larger screen the illusion that you are independent?
If the Goddess offers you love and you walk away from the joy, learning and growth that is there. How can you think you will find it elsewhere?
